Why is APPSC turning the table on the aspirants?

Dear Editor,

This is in reference to letter  “A sign and rejection of 1735 candidates”  by Hage Mala published in your letter yesterday. It was disappointing news for many aspirants to learn that their names are included in odd list of some 1700 rejected candidates. APPSC coordinator committee has not only barred them from pursuing their dreams but put them in rejection list at the very last moment.

I must admit that candidate should have been more careful while submitting their application forms but the cause of rejection was incomplete information given by the APPSC panel only or else it is just impossible for 1700 candidate to miss signing in their photos simultaneously.

I have a question for concern authority. If they meant to be this strict then what about the incomplete information that they have given in prospectus with application forms? Why can’t they correct themselves first? The worst sufferers are those candidates who stay out of state and have very limited or no access to local newspapers.

Barring so many candidates from taking prelims would be big blunder. it’s like telling one to construct building and call off the construction at its final stage just because architecture forgot to put one window.

There are many other exams such as Common Admission Test which went online this time that gives correction facility for application with incomplete data. Therefore, I would like to request to concern authority to establish correction facility on same line as CAT, so that the future of 1700 aspirants of APPSC does not go in vain.

           Yours,

Tabyo Michi (on e-mail)

Bangalore.

APPSC need to clean its act as well

Dear Editor,

I on behalf of rejected candidate of APCS exam want to express my agony to the authority concern. Our application forms have been rejected because of a mere error of not self-attesting the two extra passport size photos along with the photo on the form. It’s really surprising that APPSC has started adopting such a high standard of scrutiny which indeed needs kudos.

Being a revered body of the state, APPSC must maintain it not only in the scrutiny of application forms but also in the conduct of exam, question papers, dates and most importantly they should respect their own decision unlike the past. They should plan every step very meticulously as it is done in UPSC. It should not be like dates are revised if some pressure group interrupt or delay the declaration of prepared result and declaring it very next day when someone warns to go for a strike or making question papers beyond the syllabus etc. If they cannot maintain it, they don’t have the right to reject the applications of thousand aspirants for such a minute mistake.

And if they are going to reconsider those applications it should not have been rejected at all  rather extended time should have been given for correction so that everybody respect the decision of the commission. It is not just about the question of rejection or reconsideration; it’s about the image of the Commission.

  Yours,

Bomri Riba (on email)

When the name pop up in the rejection list !

Dear Editor,

The “Notification” section under APPSC.GOV.IN turned out to be a synonym of disappointment to many enthusiastic students. Zeal and zest diffuses into hopelessness when you find your name popping up in the ‘Rejected List’. One of those many was that of mine and this gives me insight feelings along with the rest of rejected  candidates. Thousands of aspiring youth lost their faith due to the mismanagement of the commission.

Inefficiency and half-hazard decision making have been a very perennial problem of the APPSC Board: right from the issue of draft (still not clear) shifting from 05 to 04: and the most recent being the rescheduling of Preliminary date. Perhaps the ‘Original Sin’ was the tricky attestation issue not exclusively mentioned in the examination forms (although mentioned in the advertisement). This turned out to be a trap for as many as 1736 students: and who knows even some of the photos might have gone misplaced by the careless miss-management by the office clerks in the course of the shuffling.

Nevertheless, I don’t intend to bring the darker side of the Board. Perhaps the safety valve can come in the form of  a penance. I believe, a new chance of Re-filling in the forms within the next fourthnight for the victims can be a solution. And Yes! The Board will, after all if not they who will take in concern the valuable zest and time staked by the student’s community.

And I would like to draw your attention of the legitimate student representative body, AAPSU, in the context of their ongoing devoted agitation regarding the rescheduling of APPSC preliminary examination. It should be brought to your knowledge that Delhi University internal assessment examination, which carries 25% marks of the university main examination, is always held in January.  Many of Arunachali who are studying in Delhi cannot afford to miss their internal examination. Both of these examinations are vital so I would like to request Arunachal Pradesh public service commission to act seriously and as soon as possible.  This poor scheduling can only have a negative effect on the future generation.

            Yours,

Together, let’s show the way

Dear Editor,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily I would like to congratulate the Action Aid Society Arunachal (AASA) for their tremendous job in creating "a garbage bin with a difference", which was featured in your daily on Dec 4.

When everyone was being a mere spectator to the menace of rising garbage, the AASA has shown a way to help ourselves in becoming a better citizen.

In addition, if more and more people are concerned about this situation, then Arunachal can truly be called the Land of the Rising Sun and not the Land of the Rising Garbage.

            Yours,

Bamin Sungka

Give us a second chance

Dear Editor,

I would like to bring to everyone’s notice the rejection of 1,735 APPSCE candidates on the ground of unattested photographs. I do not deny the fact that the candidates should have been more careful while filling up the form. But had it been the case of 100 or 200 candidates, it might have seemed to be due to their negligence but when the number is 1735, there cannot be any denial that there has been mistake on the part of authorities too and that they have been equally responsible.

The inadequate amount of instruction provided in the form has been the sole creator of the entire confusion, which has lead to this mess. If self attesting the photograph was of such importance that it could lead to rejection, it should have been clearly mentioned in the form too. Moreover, it is not always possible for everyone to have access to the newspaper, especially for the candidates who hail from the rural areas of  Arunachal where there is either very limited circulation  or  no circulation at all and also for candidates who are outside Arunachal.

Therefore, I on behalf of all the candidates who have been rejected on the similar grounds would like to appeal to the authorities to reconsider their decision which could save the life of many aspiring candidates.

Yours,

Miss Tsering Chedon

Ramos, Pailibo & Bokars to celebrate Podi-Barbi

ITANAGAR, Dec 4: The Ramo, Pailibo and Bokar communities residing in and around the capital complex are all set to celebrate their common festival “Podi -Barbi here on December 5 next.

Ramo, Pailibo and Bokar communities are mainly concentrated in Mechukha, Monigong, Pidi and Tato circle of Mechukha Sub-Division bordering China in West Siang District.

Culture, custom and tradition of the three communities are similar and together they celebrate the Podi-Barbi festival every year.

According to the legend ‘Podi-Barbi’ means a small cricket like migratory insect which makes out a strong tweeter sound that arrives at the time of harvesting season in the region.

Since the earlier people did not use any calendar, they relied on the arrival of the small insect as their calendar for harvesting season.

The festival is celebrated in order to welcome the harvesting season and to extend thankfulness to the Mother Nature for bumper harvesting and pray for sufficient growth of crops in coming years and pray for ample hunting opportunities of wild animals.

Men and women clad in traditional attire, and enjoy the day with fun and merry making.

Like other festivals of Tani origin, the sacrifice of domestic animals during the festival is another feature and local priest called Nyubu performs the ritual.

The people are agrarian and grow maize, millet and paddy along with vegetable items, which they still practice though in a very limited quantity.

Maize was used as staple food crop as cultivation of paddy in hilly and rocky terrain was quite difficult and even if it did grow it was scanty, but with the introduction of Public Distribution System (PDS) by the government, food habits among the people have drastically changed.

The people now dependent totally on PDS item for they prefer rice to maize as food. However, they have not abandon the practice of growing maize, millet and other vegetable items for themselves and domestic animals.

These three communities have rich culture and tradition but due to lack of proper exposure to outside world, most of the people even in the state do not know much about the Ramos, Pailibos and Bokars.

Darkness prevails in Capital Region

Taba Ajum

ITANAGAR, Dec 4: ‘Andhera Kayam Hain’, a popular dialect from a famous television series Shaktiman, which roughly means ‘darkness prevails’, truly applies for capital complex roads, the moment night falls. There is no sign of any streetlight or if there exists any, you would not find it in working condition. In the midst of complete darkness, it is the light of vehicles or houses nearby roads, which illuminates streets.  No wonder that most of the recent accidents in Itanagar-Naharlagun road, which resulted in loss of valuable lives, also took place during nighttime.

While there are whole lot of talks going on to make Itanagar an ideal capital city but there is no denying that for long our government has been in sleeping mood. There have been constant reports of accidents but every time blame will either fall on driver of the vehicle involved in accident or traffic police for their inefficiency. Nobody in the city administration or the town planner seems to find out the root cause of accidents. This reporter himself travels from Itanagar to Naharlagun on regular basis during night and find this road stretch very scary. Lack of proper streetlights makes visibility so difficult that at times one cannot even notice stones lying on the road.

It is widely known that road stretching from Banderdewa to Chimpu comes under National Highway 52A, but it hardly stands up to the standard of being called as National Highway. As one drives through this stretch of road, being careful is the only way, which can save people from any accident. Adding to the problem of non-existence of streetlights, there are some places where you get glimpse of electric poles but most of it are just standing without any flicker of light.

When Power Department official of Itanagar Powerhouse at C-Sector was contacted on the issue, the reply came, “Due to the lack of equipments some of the street lights are not working.”

Police who are constantly accused of showing lack of commitment to book traffic offenders also highlighted problem of streetlights. “I do agree most of the accidents take place during night time. Some of the stretches like Papu Nallah and near Pahalwan Point have become accident sites as there is no street light making these places vulnerable,” said an official from Naharlagun police.

The central government granted whopping Rs 234.06 crore under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme for ‘City Development Plan’ in Itanagar area and this gives a lot of hope to the public that things may change for good in the coming days.
